Psychological Evaluations in Philadelphia
Understanding. Clarity. Support.
If you’ve been asked to undergo a psychological evaluation as part of a family court process, it’s natural to feel hesitant, anxious, or even resistant. You’re not alone—many people don’t want to do this. It can feel intrusive, confusing, or like you’re being put on trial. But these evaluations aren’t about judgment or blame. They’re designed to provide clear, objective information that helps the court understand the whole picture and support the best interests of your family.
What is a Psychological Evaluation?
A psychological evaluation is a professional assessment conducted by a licensed psychologist to better understand your mental, emotional, and behavioral health. It involves interviews, standardized tests, and observations to gather information that can inform court decisions related to custody, parenting time, or other family matters.
Why Are These Evaluations Important?
Family court decisions have a lasting impact on you and your children. A psychological evaluation provides valuable insights that go beyond surface impressions or one-sided stories. It helps the court:
Understand your strengths and challenges in life and as a parent
Identify any concerns that may affect your child’s well-being
Recommend supports or interventions that can improve family functioning

The length of the evaluation depends on many factors, including how quickly we can schedule appointments and the complexity of the situation. I do my best to complete evaluations as quickly as possible and aim to do so within about 6-8 weeks from our first meeting.
