The Process
-
Together we meet and review your child’s life up until this point, including a thorough developmental history.
-
Before meeting your child, I visit your their classroom before to get a sense of how things typically go for them at school.
-
Your child will attend three half-day testing appointments, which include interviews, playing/talking, and formal psychological testing.
-
Parents and children both get the opportunity to know what I learned about them through the testing process. Parents will leave this appointment with a clear map forward. Children/teens leave this appointment with knowing more about themselves.
-
Above all else, I answer your burning question that led you to seek an evaluation. My recommendations also emphasize social-emotional development. Confidence and adjustment are key to learning or behavioral issues; with them front and center, my recommendations bring lasting change to your family.

Frequently asked questions about child assessments
FAQs
-
Some parents or schools have specific questions about the presence of ADHD, a learning disability, or giftedness. Assessments seek to provide more clarity about these questions. Assessments can also offer insight into a child’s social-emotional wellbeing.
-
Evidence-based recommendations are provided in every report. Recommendations are comprehensive and may include strategies for home, school, and other settings to best support your child. Recommendations may also focus on additional services that your child may benefit from such as different therapies or consultation with other specialized professionals.

The length of the evaluation depends on many factors, including how quickly we can schedule appointments and the complexity of the situation. I do my best to complete evaluations as quickly as possible and aim to do so within about 6-8 weeks from our first meeting.
